On Monday 22nd June 2009 Marney Perna principle of Kinique-"Kinesiology uniquely for you", a kinesiology clinic located in Brisbane's North side was invited by Blue Care to present a workshop to a group of carers at a Northlakes Retirement Village. The focus of the workshop was on self care and how kiniesiology would be of benefit to the quality and functionality of their lives.
A carer is someone who ultimately has the sole responsibility to care for someone often 24 hours a day in their homes. The carer takes care of the day to day management of the other person in some cases a younger child or their partner. With the constant care that the other person requires it is most often the case that the carer doesn't always get alot of self time. Any time available is generally spent in doing mundane jobs like housework, banking, appointments and the list goes on. Although the carer is aware of the fact that they should look after themselves the available time is just not there. There were 6 basic ways shown that could give some "me" time to the carers and they included advice on:- Getting adequate sleep and why, Making sure they get outside of the house for some fresh air each day, Exchanging smiles with at least 2 other people, Saying and meaning "Good Morning", Making the to do list in smaller chunks, and being grateful for at least 10 items of their lives. All of this advise was to uplift the spirit and to give the body a breather from stress.
